Brailsford has been with Wiggins and Team Sky for three years, so at the age of 29 and coming off of the Vuelta, one could argue that his experience has helped him in the past. The two-time Tour de France winner knows how to push his legs, his aerobic and work effort levels to the top, and his knowledge of all races will certainly be invaluable to Froome.

However Wiggins and his manager Dave Brailsford will no doubt also have to work hard to secure Froome’s signature. There are no guarantees of a place on his team, nor does Froome always say or do what might be acceptable for other riders, and both are unlikely to start for several weeks. Either way, the Brit has had his moments on the big stages of the race – including his dominant ride against Bauke Mollema in 2008 – so if nothing else, his knowledge of what to do will only be a benefit to his future employers.
